School is over !!!

The girls finished school this week. They will be out for a week, then go back on the 7th into the next grade. Madison into 4th grade and Dehlia into 1st grade. We are keeping busy this week. Besides my parents coming in to visit, the girls will be in soccer camp 4 mornings this week.

Here's the cake from Dehlia's class' end of year party....

Here's Dehlia with her Kindergarten teacher and teacher assistant......

Here's Madison with her 3rd grade teacher....

And here's what my living room looked like after they got home on the last day. So much for cleaning while they were at school!!!!

Building with Geo Tracks....

Went downstairs last week to help Aric build a "BIG" track. Went down about 1 pm and came back upstairs around 2 pm. It took an HOUR to build this thing!!! I couldn't believe that I had been downstairs in the playroom that long. Only issue that I had was the declaration 5 minutes after we played that he was done and wanted to take it apart. I luckily persuaded him to leave it up to show the girls when they got home from school. He agreed. It still stands today, but it has had to be reassembled once by Madison and then corrected by me. It will last til this evening when my parents come into town since Mom sleeps in the playroom. It was fun while it lasted!

Here's Dehlia's tee ball team at their end of year celebration. They had a gathering after the last game this past Saturday. She had a great group of coaches this season. For her first time playing tee ball, she had a great experience. I just hope that when she moves up to softball in the Spring (she won't play teeball or softball in the fall - soccer time!!) that she will have as good of an experience. We could definitely see that she was bored out there on the field and in the dugout, but she seemed to have fun overall.

Here's Dehlia's last hit in tee ball. It is soooo cute to see her swing....and miss....then wind up and hit the ball. She ran to the base hard and was safe!! They are only allowed to run 1 base at a time, or the players would just be running the bases ahead of the throw. Seems pretty fair!! They don't keep score either. You play your half of the inning in the field until your team either gets 3 outs or there are 5 players that have come across the plate. It's really cute to see all those little kids running the bases with those big 'ol helmets on their heads.

Took the instructions downstairs and whipped it up in about an hour!!

Aric was upstairs playing with his Cars mega blocks and came down for a little bit to see what I was doing and pulled out a toy to play with in my room, then disappeared later back upstairs. Found him with the Cars rug in the kitchen playing Cars with Lightning, Chick, The King and Mack. It was really cute. Should have snapped a pic. oh well. Maybe I'll catch him doing it again, since the rug is in my living room now!! That boy can pull out more stuff.....

Finished this one Wednesday while stuck at the house preparing for my colonoscopy that I had on Thursday. Everything is fine. Mom had Pre-cancerous Polyps so the Doctor removed her colon almost 3 years ago. Therefore, I, being the daughter, got to have my first colonoscopy at 31 yrs. old. Fun, fun, fun.

Finished this one in a little bit over an hour the other day. Aric was playing so I decided to duck into my sewing room and see what I could get done. I surprisingly got the whole block done. I have layed out the quilt in the order that I am going to put the blocks into on the bed in the sewing/scrapbooking/guest room. Will have to take a picture to let everyone see. I actually plan on laying the blocks out just like Amanda Jean did in the quilt that she has made for the quilt along.

More Fabric

More Fabric

I went and got more fabric for my quilt. That way all the star blocks will be different fabrics. I'm OCD, I know!! :) Either that , or asking for trouble. I don't know which!!!

The ones towards the right are the ones that I already had. The ones on the far left are the new ones. The pile of 4 by themselves, in the middle, are old ones and they are going to be paired with the first 4 in the left hand pile(the new ones). I will get to work on this quilt some more after the weekend.

We are having a gathering at the house on Saturday Afternoon for the guy that left Derek's group at work (which left him in charge of the group). Not to mention that we have a tee ball game in the morning and Derek's tournament for Soccer too. He plays in the Adult league here in Fuquay. I get the thrill of taking all the kids to tee ball, then meeting him at the soccer field for the rest of his games. He will be playing 4 of them most likely tomorrow. 2 for his team and 2 for another team that he has been helping out this season. Don't know when I am going to get everything ready for the party. I still need to finish cleaning up the house, not to mention going to the store to get food!!! Still don't know how many people there will be either!! Men, you don't leave them in charge of planning anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have the blocks layed out just as she does on the blog. Shows how many more there are to fill in. I still have 1 more block to be caught up. Didn't get to it tonight, played Wii instead.

We had borrowed a couple of games from The Smith's and I wanted to try the last one out. The Bee Movie Game is definitely not for the kids. I think that they would get frustrated VERY easily!!! I was having trouble navigating around, so I can imagine the girls trying it. No fun for MA and D. After giving up on Bee Movie game, I played Guitar Hero. I got thru 2 more sets. I think that I am farther than Derek again!! That is until he plays. He fell asleep while I was playing Bee Movie, so he didn't get a chance tonight. MAybe we can play tomorrow night so that he can get a little bit farther!! We really need to get another guitar so that we can play at the same time!! Maybe for Father's Day???

Finished this one on Tuesday.

Progress

Well here's how far I had gotten Friday afternoon on the quilt along blocks.

Madison had asked me what the quilt would look like, so I showed her the picture from the web of Amanda Jean's. I told her that my colors were different and showed her all the blocks singly. She had that blank not-undertanding you mom look on her face, so I grabbed the blocks and took them to the kitched floor (It's not too dirty). I arranged them out and the light bulb clicked on in her mind. SHe said that she liked it and that it was pretty. Maybe I will make this one for her and another on for her sister. We'll see. Let's not get ahead of myself!!

Having her say those nice things about my quilt set me to wanting to work on some more blocks to try and get caught up. So, after all the kids were in bed, I whipped this one out. I lost some points, but I figure that they won't be that niticible in the big picutre. Besides, this is the FIRST time I have ever done any Triangles!!!
Got it finished right after midnight Friday night/Saturday morning.!!

Vacation to Myrtle Beach.....

Here are some pictures from our trip to Myrtle Beach.

The girls hanging in the car on the way there.....

Aric being cool on the way there.....

If you want more, head on over to the Flickr page as there are PLENTY to fit your fancy. From Lions and Tigers to Battleships and Beaches amd some alligators inbetween!!!

Day one was Tuesday. We left in the morning and headed to Wilmington to see the Battleship North Carolina. The kids were somewhat interrested in it. I thnk Derek wanted to see it the most. Hopefully next time we got, we won't have to chase Aric so much when we are on deck. Just a little bit scary thinking that he could fall off the side into the water. Not something that I wanted to experience at all. From Wilmington we headed down the road to Myrtle Beach. Got to the hotel (After figuring out that there's too many streets with the same name down there!!!)and got all of our gear up to the room and decided to go over to Barefot Landing and see what we could do there. Found a really nice place called Alligator Adventure that we were curious about. Finally found it and they were going to be closing within the hour. We made a plan to definitely go back there during our trip. We then decided that the kids were hungry (and so were us parents) so we headed down the street to a seafood buffet. They had some good Crab Legs and Shrimp. Mental note: Train girls on how to open up their own crab legs soon. Seemed like Derek and I didn't get to eat until the kids were already done. Luckily they behaved enough for Derek and I to get in some eats too. We left there exhausted so we went back to the hotel to relax and go swimming in the pool.

Day two was Wednesday (needless to say). Decided to get a sart on the day by goin' racin'!! We headed over to the Nascar Speedpark. Got there before they opened the kids and Derek were so excited to go go-kart driving. When they finally opened, we got our tickets and headed out to the track. Both girls drove cars and Derek took both girls on the larger track to race with him. Aric was kind of bummed that he couldn't go on the tracks, but they had a ride there that he was able to go on too. It was pretty much a carnival ride, but he was thrilled. After Nascar Speedpark, we went over to Broadway at the Beach. We did some shopping and found the Build-a-Bear and Build-a-Dino stores. Needless to say, there is a new Striped Cat (Stripes - Madison's) and a new Ankylosaurus (Spike - Dehlia's) that live at our house. Went to lunch at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant. Had some good Cheeseburgers in Paradise and Derek enjoyed Margaritas. We finished there and continued to do some more shopping til the rain was threatening. Went back to the car and moved it closer to the Aquarium. Enjoyed our walk through there with the kids. They have a moving walkway that takes you underwater in their large tank. It is so neat!! After we were finished there, the rain had passed and we headed back to the hotel. Aric fell asleep on the way back to the hotel, so we took him inside and layed him down. In an effort to let him sleep, Derek took the girls down to the pool for a little while. We got dinner and had a quiet evening.

Day three was Thursday. Woke up to a dreary morning with misty/light showery rain. We headed back to Barefoot Landing and hit up Alligator Adventure. It was really neat. They say that they have 1100 alligators on their property. I can believe it. There were Alligators in pens and then there was this HUGE Alligaotr open range area. Pretty much was a marshy area. There were hundreds of them. The girls and boy enjoyed looking at all the Alligators. We got to see an Alligator Feeding and Reptile Show. The 3 kids each petted a turtle, snake and alligator at the reptile show. After Alligator Adventure we headed over to the shops at Barefoot Landing and shopped for the afternoon. We went to Dixie Stampede for dinner and a show. It was great. We caught the preshow which was a juggler and comedian. Then we went inside the big arena to get ready for dinner. Aric was alseep during the preshow and ended up waking up while we were waiting for the show to get started. The food was great and plenty. The show was wonderful too. We all had a good time. The tricks that they could do with those horses were amazing. We went back to the hotel that evening and swam for a little while.

On our last full day in Myrtle Beach (Friday) we decided to go out to the Waccatee Zoo. It seemed to be a family owned zoo and we were able to feed the animals as we went along visiting the zoo. Greeting us everwhere at the zoo were peacocks. There were even 2 fighting on the roof of one building. The kids enjoyed being able to get close enough to the animals that we could feed them carefully by hand. We were amazed at how close we could get to animals like zebras and deer (A chain link fence dividing us) and tigers and lions were only a table width away from us. After the zoo visit, we went to the beach on our last afternoon. The kids loved it. We went to Hard Rock Cafe for Dinner.

We were able to go to the beach about 3 times while we were there. If we couldn't get to the beach, we would go to the pool. Dehlia remembered while she was there that she can swim underwater. Gave her more freedom to be able to play and something to look forward to when we got back home and went to the neighborhood pool.

On Saturday (The day we left), we stuck around Myrtle Beach long enough to catch a game of putt putt at the nearby course. Had a good time except for chasing Aric down to keep him out of the water hazards. There wree some ducks at the course that the kids were able to feed after we were done playing. After we played putt putt we got on the road and came home to good 'ol NC.

I believe that everyone of us had a great time in Myrtle Beach. It was nice to be able to spend time as a family and not have the interruptions of work or school or sports or nieghborhood kids, etc. Derek is already trying to talk his boss into creating a test facility down there and let Derek staff it. I think Derek enjoyed just being able to sit on the beach with tthe kids and let them romp in the surf.

We realize that the kids aren't going to be this little for long and that we need to cherish every single minute of it.
